2024-25 All-Star, Rookie All-Star Teams – Jérémy D’Astous, Philippe Collette, Raphaël Denis, and Émile Fournier honoured

Truro, N.S. (March 18, 2025) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) is pleased to announce the All-Star and Rookie All-Star Teams for the 2024-25 season. Players were selected based on nominations and subsequent votes from officials with all twelve MHL teams.

Eastlink North

Forward – Jérémy D’Astous (Edmundston Blizzard)

The 20-year-old from Saint-Eugène-de-Ladrière, Quebec finished fifth in league scoring with 82 points in 44 games. D’Astous scored 30 goals and his 52 assists ranked second only to teammate Philippe Collette for the season. His 1.86 points per game average was the best in the MHL among those who played at least a quarter of the season. D’Astous started the year with the Grand Falls Rapids and had sixteen goals and 35 assists in 27 games before being traded January 6th to Edmundston. D’Astous tallied fourteen goals and seventeen assists with the Blizzard. He was one of six players to tally six points in a game this season, with two goals and four assists in a 9-4 win by Grand Falls over Amherst on November 23rd. He and Amherst’s Mathis Perron also had the longest assist streak this season, with D’Astous accumulating nineteen assists in eleven games stretching from November 20th to January 3rd. D’Astous was named to the Eastlink North Team of the Week six times and was the Honourable Mention for Top Forward in November.

Forward – Philippe Collette (Edmundston Blizzard)

The 19-year-old from St-Antoine, N.B. is an All-Star for the second season in a row. Collette finished third in the MHL scoring race with 84 points in 48 games and led the league with 58 assists. He had 26 goals to finish third on the team. Collette was one of the league’s most dangerous players in the shootout going a perfect 4 for 4, two of which were shootout winners. He tied four other players for the longest point streak this season at fourteen games, where he accumulated 37 points from November 24th to January 25th. Like his teammate Jérémy D’Astous, Collette was also one of five players to tally a league-high six points in one game. That came on December 14th where he had two goals, including the game-winner, and four assists. He was named the league’s Top Forward in October and December and was named to the Eastlink North Team of the Week four times. 

Forward – Justin David (Miramichi Timberwolves)

The 20-year-old from Pigeon Hill, N.B. finished eighth in league scoring with 76 points in 52 games. David was fourth in assists with 51 and led the MHL with three shootout winners. He was second on the Timberwolves to Jacob Lafontaine with 25 goals, and tied him in game-winning goals for Miramichi with five. David was seventh in the league with seventeen powerplay assists. A regular contributor for the Timberwolves, he found the scoresheet in 42 of 52 games played and 23 of those efforts were multi-point games. He had a season-high five points in back-to-back games in January, totalling three goals and seven assists. David was named to the Eastlink North Team of the Week four times. He finished the season with 230 career points, becoming the first player to cross the 200-point threshold in the MHL since Summerside’s Kallum Muirhead in 2019-20.

Defense – Ryan Hopkins (Fredericton Red Wings)

The 20-year-old from Lunenburg, N.S. joined the Red Wings this season and finished just one point back of fellow defenseman Salem Johnson for the team lead in points. Hopkins had 31 points in 42 games with sixteen goals and fifteen assists. He led all blueliners in goals and was second to Pictou County’s Drew Maddigan with eight powerplay goals. Hopkins was also the only defenseman to have two shootout goals this season. Hopkins averaged a team-high 28:09 of ice time each night for Fredericton according to analytics website InStat. He was an Honourable Mention for Top Defenseman in February/March and was named to the Eastlink North Team of the Week seven times.

Defense – Raphaël Denis (Edmundston Blizzard)

The 20-year-old from McMasterville, Quebec was another mid-season acquisition by the Blizzard from the Rapids. Denis, who spent last season with Grand Falls, had eight goals and 27 assists in 26 games with the team before the trade on January 6th. With the Blizzard, Denis had three goals and fifteen assists in eighteen games. Among defensemen for the season, he led the way with 42 assists and 53 points, was third in the league with 20 powerplay points, and finished fifth in goals with eleven. He had the second-longest assist streak this season with fifteen across ten games, and was tied for the longest point streak of the season at fourteen from November 20th to January 4th. Denis was named to the Eastlink North team of the Week seven times and was the league’s Top Defenseman in December.

Goaltender – Jack Flanagan (Miramichi Timberwolves)

The 20-year-old from Saint John, N.B. played in the most games of any netminder this season with 38 games and had the second-most minutes played with 2,102. Flanagan posted a record of 19-14-0-1, tying with two others for the most wins this season, and was fourth with a 2.97 goals against average. His .925 save percentage was tied for third-best with Summerside’s George Gallant and he made the most saves in the MHL with 1,276. Flanagan also had two shutouts, tied for the second-most this season. He was named to the Eastlink North Team of the Week seven times and was named the league’s Top Goaltender in January.


Eastlink South

Forward – Mathis Perron (Amherst Ramblers)

The 20-year-old from Sherbrooke, Quebec joined the Ramblers this season and finished fourth in league scoring with 83 points in 50 games. He was tied for second in assists with 52 and finished sixth in goals with 31. Perron was second to Pictou County’s Logan O’Neil with seven shorthanded goals this season and was one of four players with seven game-winning goals to lead the MHL. He was a key member of the league’s top-ranked powerplay, leading the league with 25 powerplay assists and 35 powerplay points. Perron had assists in eleven straight games, tying Edmundston’s Jérémy D’Astous for the longest such streak in the league. He was named Top Forward in September and an Honourable Mention for the award in December and January. Perron was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week six times.

Forward – Dominik Godin (Summerside Western Capitals)

The 21-year-old from Sudbury, Ontario finished second to Pictou County’s Lucas Canning in goals (46) and points (85) in 52 games. Godin also had 39 assists, which ranked twelfth. He led the MHL with 20 powerplay goals, including an MHL season-high three on October 10th in a win over West Kent. Godin was second with 33 powerplay points, and was tied for the league lead with seven game-winning goals. He was named the MHL’s Top Forward in November, which led to Godin being selected as the CJHL’s 1st Star for that month. He was named an Honourable Mention for Top Forward in September and was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week seven times.

Forward – Lucas Canning (Pictou County Weeks Crushers)

The 20-year-old from Stellarton, N.S. won the regular season scoring title with 87 points in 48 games with the Crushers. Canning’s 53 goals are the most in the single season since 2006-07 when Summerside’s Mike MacIsaac had 54 goals and Amherst’s Andrew Sweetland had 56. He had the longest goal streak in the league at twelve games from December 5th to January 25th, during which he scored an amazing 22 goals. He was second to Summerside’s Dominik Godin with fourteen powerplay goals and was tied for the third-most shorthanded points this season with five. Canning was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week six times and was the Honourable Mention for Top Forward in February/March.

Defense – Coen Strang (Amherst Ramblers)

The 20-year-old from Moncton, N.B. is an All-Star for the second season in a row. Strang had the third-most points among defensemen with 47 in 50 games, which is the most for an Amherst blueliner since Jamieson Chisholm in 2003-04. He was second to Edmundston’s Raphael Denis with 41 assists, but led all blueliners with 21 powerplay assists. Strang tied two other defensemen for the most game-winning goals among blueliners with three. The Amherst captain was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week five times and was the Honourable Mention for Top Defenseman in December.

Defense – Drew Maddigan (Pictou County Weeks Crushers)

The 20-year-old from Hammonds Plains, N.S. was second to Edmundston’s Raphael Denis with 50 points. Maddigan had fifteen goals and 35 assists in 40 games played and was fourth on the Crushers in scoring. Among defensemen, he led the way with ten powerplay goals and 27 powerplay points, tied for second with Miramichi’s Caleb Van de Ven in goals, and was third in assists. Maddigan’s powerplay points total was also third-best among all players. He was named Top Defenseman in January and Honourable Mention for the award in November. Maddigan was also named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week five times.

Goaltender – Jack Milner (Truro Bearcats)

The 20-year-old from Antigonish, N.S. returned to the Truro Bearcats at the trade deadline on January 10th and made an immediate impact. In sixteen games, Milner had a record of 8-5-1-0 with a 2.46 goals against average and one shutout. He faced an average of 27.5 shots per game and posted a .919 save percentage. Milner allowed just one goal in each of his first two games back in the MHL, with 30 saves in a win over Grand Falls on the 10th and 36 saves in a win over Amherst the next night. He was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week twice this season.

Rookie All-Star Team

ForwardÉmile Fournier (Edmundston Blizzard)

The 18-year-old from Sainte-Luce, Quebec led all rookies with 37 goals and 63 points in 52 games. Fournier finished fourteenth overall in league scoring and third in goals. His goal total was nearly double that of second-place Felix-Antoine Laflamme of Campbellton, who had nineteen. They were also the most for an MHL rookie since Matt Oxtoby of the Yarmouth Mariners also had 37 in 2002-03. Fournier finished second to Laflamme with 26 assists and the two each had five game-winning goals to lead all rookies. His eleven powerplay goals led all rookies, and were fifth-most overall, helping Fournier to lead all rookies with fifteen powerplay points. He had the second-longest goal streak in the MHL this season at nine games from November 30th to January 4th where he tallied thirteen goals in that span. Fournier was named Top Rookie in December and February/March, and was the Honourable Mention for Top Rookie in November. He was named to the Eastlink North Team of the Week four times.

Forward – Jack Hayne (Amherst Ramblers)

The 17-year-old from Antigonish, N.S. tallied fourteen goals and seventeen assists in 43 games for the Ramblers. His 31 points were sixth among rookies. Hayne was fifth in goals and assists and fourth in powerplay assists with five. He was named Honourable Mention for the league’s Top Rookie award in January.

Forward – Elliot Wright (Amherst Ramblers)

The 18-year-old from St. John’s, Newfoundland joined the Ramblers after the trade deadline and had six goals and ten assists in 20 games to finish the season. Wright’s 0.80 points per game was fourth-best among all rookies and he took just four minor penalties. His first goal in the MHL was the game-winner in a 3-1 win over Truro on January 15th. Wright was named Honourable Mention for Top Rookie in February/March.

Defense – Ryan Fletcher (Valley Wildcats)

The 19-year-old from Woodville, N.S. finished second in scoring for rookie defensemen to Truro’s Tristan St-Gelais with nineteen points in 43 games. Fletcher, who was traded to Valley from Truro last season, had three goals and sixteen assists in 2024-25. His two powerplay goals and ten powerplay assists led all rookie defensemen.

Defense – Tristan St-Gelais (Truro Bearcats)

The 18-year-old from Frelighsburg, Quebec led all rookie defensemen with 23 points in 48 games and was tenth in overall rookie scoring. He had nine powerplay assists for the Bearcats, which was second-most among rookie blueliners to Valley’s Ryan Fletcher. St-Gelais also took just four minor penalties while logging consistent minutes for Truro. His nineteen assists were forth-most among rookies. He was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week once and was the Honourable Mention for Top Rookie in October.

Goaltender – George Gallant (Summerside Western Capitals)

The 18-year-old from Summerside, P.E.I. led all MHL goaltenders in wins with a record of 20-4-0-1. His 2.63 goals against average was second only to Edmundston’s Austin Caley (1.98) and he tied Caley for the most shutouts with three. Gallant was tied with Miramichi’s Jack Flanagan for the third-best save percentage in the league at .925. His shutout wins were a 28-save performance against Yarmouth on November 8th, 30 saves against the Mariners on January 4th, and then 29 saves against Valley on January 11th. Gallant was named Top Rookie and Honourable Mention for Top Goaltender in both November and January. He was named to the Eastlink South Team of the Week three times.
