4th consecutive win for the Blizzard

MIRAMICHI, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard posted their fourth straight win to start the campaign when they defeated the Miramichi Timberwolves 6-5 in a shootout on Friday evening at the Miramichi Civic Centre.

It was forward Jérémy Fortin who put an end to hostilities with the decisive goal in a shootout that saw 12 players attempt to outwit the opposing goaltender.

Giant-sized 18-year-old forward Émile Fournier scored his first two Maritime Junior Hockey League goals to lead his team to victory. The 6’4” player earned the game’s third star. Philippe Collette, with a goal and an assist, was named second star of the game. Derian Thomson and Nathan Plamondon rounded out the scoring for the Blizzard (4-0-0-0). Forward Carl-Anthony Massé once again had an excellent game with two assists.

In the Timberwolves camp, Mitchell Wagner (2 goals), Will Allen (1g, 1a), Justin David (1g, 1a) and Jacob Lafontaine found the back of the net behind Jack Howatt.

The Blizzard once again dominated in shots on goal, 36-21. Jack Flanagan was on duty in front of the Timberwolves’ cage.

The Blizzard thus savored a second straight victory over the playoff champions.

Edmundston held a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes of play. Philippe Collette scored in the shootout, as did Jérôme Gilbert (Timberwolves). Jérémy Fortin was the sixth Blizzard player to take part in the shootout.

Edmundston will play its next game on Sunday, September 29 (2 p.m.) in Fredericton.
