EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – A total of 1,640 plush animals and objects were collected during the teddy bear game on Sunday, December 8 at the Jean-Daigle Centre. For the first anniversary of his arrival with the Edmundston Blizzard, mascot Chinook could not ask for more!
When Brock McLeod’s goal lit the red light at 8:49 of the first period, the rink was soon to be buried by many teddy bears. Blizzard’s fans were invited to bring out new or in excellent condition plush animals and objects and throw them on the ice at Blizzard’s first goal, which came quick enough.
It took about 15 minutes for the young pee-wee players of the Edmundston Minor Hockey Community Club and volunteers from Noël magique to fill three large boxes of pickup trucks. The Blizzard players also lent a helping hand for the game to continue quickly.
Teddy bears will be distributed to children in need through the following organizations: Noël magique, Atelier RADO, Escale MadaVic, Saint-Jacques Guignolée, Saint-Joseph Guignolée, Thrift Store, Edmundston Regional Hospital and North West Resource Center for Newcomers.
The Blizzard organization wishes to thank all the team’s fans for this wonderful gesture of generosity and solidarity as well as its media partners who contributed to the success of this great event, CFAI and Frontière FM radio stations as well as the Info Weekend newspaper.
As for the result of the game, the Blizzard lost 3-2 in shootout against the Summerside Western Capitals.
