Bearcats surprise Blizzard in overtime

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – After prevailing in overtime the day before in Campbellton, the Edmundston Blizzard received the same treatment by the Truro Bearcats, who won 4-3 in overtime on Saturday night at the Jean-Daigle Centre in front of a crowd of 2,701 spectators.

Gerald Blackmore scored the winning goal with 1:05 to go into overtime when he skated passed the blue line on a 2-on-1. He chose to shoot in the open top half of the net.

Curiously, the outcome of the Blizzard’s last three games was decided in overtime. Edmundston finished its first 19 games of the season in regulation time.

Second star of the night, Brock McLeod was dominant. He participated on all Blizzard’s goals with two goals and an assist. Chrystopher Collin scored the nicest goal of the game by beating goalkeeper Alec MacDonald with a close-range backhand shot after a quick pivot.

Carson Lanceleve, Luke MacMillan and Bryan Laureigh also got the puck passed Antoine Lyonnais, who repelled 23 shots. First star of the game, MacDonald received 34 shots.

Bearcats’ win was only their sevenths of the campaign. They lost 14 times, including one in overtime and four in shootout.

Blizzard (14-6-1-1) will play their next game at the Jean-Daigle Centre on Friday, November 29 (7:30 pm) against the Fredericton Red Wings.
