EDMUNDSTON, N.B. – A three-goal third-period surge by the Truro Bearcats secured them a 5-2 victory over the Edmundston Blizzard on Friday night at the Jean-Daigle Centre, giving them a 2-1 lead in the Metalfab MHL Cup finals series.
After a somewhat sluggish first ten minutes, the Bearcats regrouped and imposed their rhythm; with impeccable team discipline, they allowed the Blizzard very little space.
Nathan Curson (1st and 2nd) and Callum Aucoin (9th and 10th) each scored two goals. Jake Todd (3rd) added an empty-net goal.
Charles-Éric Tremblay (4th) opened the scoring for the Blizzard at 3:33 into the game. After the first period, the Blizzard trailed by one goal. In the second, Noah Larochelle (8th) tied the game, setting the stage for a highly anticipated third period. But the Bearcats struck a blow to the home team by scoring at 1:11, much to the dismay of the 2,701 spectators.
Returning after missing the first two games, Cédric Massé allowed four goals on 22 shots. The Blizzard fired 27 shots on the net defended by Louca Connolly.
The three stars were awarded to Aucoin (1st), Curson (2nd), and Larochelle (3rd).
Before the game, defenseman Alexis Chénard received the Lighthouse Award. This honor is presented to the MHL player who best exemplifies excellence in athletics, academics, and community service.
The fourth and crucial game of the series will be played on Saturday, April 25 (7:30 p.m.) at the Jean-Daigle Centre.
