EDMUNDSTON, Nouveau-Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard has once again made a move during the transaction period that ends on January 10.
This time, it’s a three-team deal involving the Truro Bearcats and Valley Wildcats.
The Blizzard obtain goaltender Austin Caley and defenseman Jake MacDonald, both 19, from the Truro Bearcats. MacDonald was traded by Valley to Truro the previous day.
In return, the Blizzard traded defenseman Alexis Jacques and goaltender Sawyer Russell to the Truro Bearcats. Jacques was subsequently traded to the Campbellton Tigers.
Austin Caley hails from Van Alstyne, Texas. He played all his minor hockey in Dallas before joining the Bearcats this season. Statistically, he leads all MHL goaltenders with a 2.18 goals-against average and .936 save percentage. He has a record of 8 wins and 3 losses in 11 games.
Defenseman Jake MacDonald, a native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, appeared in 16 games this season with Valley, collecting two assists. He began his MHL career with the South Shore Lumberjacks in 2022-2023 (46gp, 1g, 10a), then played with the West Kent Steamers last year (46gp, 0g, 5a) for a total of 107 games in the league.
Alexis Jacques took part in 31 games for the Blizzard this season, amassing 6 goals and 21 assists, good for fifth among MHL defensemen for points. Including last season, he played 71 games for Edmundston, tallying 14 goals and 42 assists for 56 points.
Goaltender Sawyer Russell joined the Blizzard on November 21. He won four of his five games, posting a goals-against-average of 3.79 and save percentage of .838.
