Blizzard acquires goalkeeper Sawyer Russell

EDMUNDSTON, N.-B. – The Edmundston Blizzard have completed a transaction, acquiring goaltender Sawyer Russell from the Trenton Golden Hawks of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) in return for future considerations.

A native of Fredericton, Russell is 18 years old, 6’2” tall and catches right. After playing his minor hockey in the Saint John area, he joined the Golden Hawks (20-3-1-0), currently fifth in the Canadian Junior Hockey League standings.

In six games, Russell has a perfect record of five wins, a 3.29 goals-against average and a .887 save percentage.

Russell’s arrival means the release of Clay Ryan, who was acquired on October 26. Ryan won his two starts with the Blizzard, posting a 3.31 goals-against average.

Blizzard’s management welcomes Sawyer Russell and wants to thank Clay Ryan for his services.
