Blizzard blanked 4-0 in Campbellton

CAMPBELLTON, New Brunswick – For their last game of the season away from home, the Edmundston Blizzard would certainly have hoped for a better result. The Campbellton Tigers won 4-0 on Sunday afternoon in the Restigouche County.

The Blizzard (41-6-1-1) were shutout for the first time in almost four years. The last time this happened was on March 14, 2021, during the pandemic-shortened season. Ironically, Edmundston suffered a 4-0 defeat at Campbellton.

The Tigers’ offense was led by their big guns, Owen Underhill (20th, 1a), Tyler Pazin (25th), Sam Hope (21st) and Thomas Larouche (21st, 1a).

The Blizzard were shut out by goalkeeper Adam Rouleau, who blocked all 39 shots. In the Blizzard camp, goaltenders Frédéric Cousineau (2 goals on 19 shots) and Austin Caley (2 goals on 15 shots) shared the task.

Rouleau (1st), Underhill (2nd) and Larouche (3rd) were awarded the game’s stars.

Edmundston and Campbellton will face off in the final game of the season between the two teams on March 9 at the Jean-Daigle Centre. It’s quite possible that the two northern teams will meet in the first round of the playoffs. The Tigers (24-18-4-2) are in fourth place in the Eastlink North division, three points behind the Miramichi Timberwolves. Both teams have four games left in the season.

For the Blizzard, they have already been crowned overall champions of the MHL, meaning they will enjoy home-ice advantage throughout the playoffs. Edmundston will play their last three games at the Jean-Daigle Centre, on Thursday, February 27 (7:30 p.m.) against Fredericton, on Friday, March 7 (7:30 p.m.) versus Miramichi, and on Sunday, March 9 (3 p.m.) against Campbellton.
