EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard scored four unanswered goals and managed to contain a late comeback attempt by the Campbellton Tigers to finally win 4-3 in front of 2,470 fans gathered at the Jean-Daigle Centre.
The Blizzard was trailing 2-0 in the first period. With just over three minutes left in the opening frame, Chad Wilson cut the Campellton’s lead to just a goal.
The second period saw the blue and white team dominates. Chase Carter and Tristan Gagnon scored to give Edmundston a 3-2 lead. Then, during the third period, Dylan Lang scored the winning goal at 6:48. The Blizzard didn’t help their cause in the last five minutes of the game by getting two consecutive penalties. The Tigers capitalized to narrow the Blizzard’s lead to a goal (4-3) during a two-man advantage. But the Blizzard (13-5-0-0) was able to hold on to win. Edmundston now trails the EastLink North Division leaders, the Summerside Western Capitals (15-3-0-0), by four points.
Blizzard’s October player of the month, captain Tristan Gagnon added an assist during the game. Charles-William Gagné (1g, 1a), Coleton Perry and Alexandre David, with his first MHL goal, replied for the Tigers (8-8-1-0).
Goalkeeper Antoine Lyonnais earned the win. He faced 32 shots including 18 in the third period. Tristan Gray received 28 shots on the Tigers side.
The stars of the game went to three Blizzard players: Tristan Gagnon (1st), Brock McLeod (2nd) and Antoine Lyonnais (3rd).
Blizzard players will rest for a few days before facing their great rivals from Summerside who will be coming to the Jean-Daigle Centre on Saturday (4 pm) and Sunday (3 pm).
