EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – For the third year in a row, the Edmundston Blizzard have clinched the championship of the MHL Eastlink North Division.
The Blizzard enjoyed a hard-fought 4-1 triumph Friday night in Fredericton to secure their division championship.
Jérémy D’astous (27th), Zachary Robichaud (2nd), Marco Martin (3rd) and Mathieu Pigeon (8th) took turns scoring for the Blizzard who, despite an unequivocal 52-19 dominance in shots, had to wait until midway through the third period to breathe a little easier until victory.
William Labranche picked up assists on the final two goals of the game. Austin Caley put in another solid performance, although he had an easy time of it with his defensemen, who brilliantly nullified opposing threats.
Jayden Burtt-Munn (4th) was the Red Wings’ sole scorer.
First star of the evening, goalkeeper Mathieu Mongrain was making his fourth start against the Blizzard. Each time, he faced a bombardment of 44 shots or more. Marco Martin earned the second star, while the third went to William Labranche.
This was the Blizzard’s only game of the weekend. Edmundston has just seven games left to play before the end of the regular calendar, six of them at the Jean-Daigle Centre. On Friday, February 14 (7:30 p.m.), they host the West Kent Steamers. On Sunday, February 16 (3 p.m.), they will host the Grand Falls Rapids.
