Blizzard collapses in the third; Miramichi wins

Logan Johnston collected a goal and an assist in Blizzard’s loss on Friday.

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – Miramichi Timberwolves scored three unanswered goals in a span of two minutes and 53 secondes in the third period, turning a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 win.

Defenseman Mitchell Kreis stole the show by scoring two goals and getting two assists for the winners.

Blizzard seemed in control of the game before the biggest crowd of the season in the Maritime junior Hockey League. A total of 2,727 spectators gathered at the Jean-Daigle Centre and were very enthusiastic when their team was leading 4-2 at the end of the second period.

Logan Johnston (1 goal, 1 assist), Kyle Ward (1 goal), Samuel Bastille (1 goal), Dany Coulombe (1 goal) and Alexandre Jacob (2 assists) were the biggest offensive threat for the Blizzard (24 wins, 6 losses and 3 overtime defeats).

Dillon Boucher (1 goal, 2 assists), Colby Tower and Dylan Wheatley also beat goalkeeper Myles Hektor who faced 28 shots. His opponent Tanner Somers was touched 29 times. Timberwolves’ rearguard David Comeau also did great with three assists.

Blizzard took only two penalties in the game but the Timberwolves capitalized each time.

The win was important for Miramichi (16-10-2-2) who are now tied with the Campbellton Tigers (17-13-2-0) in third place in the EastLink North Division, one less thant the Summerside Western Capitals (18-12-1-0).

Blizzard returns to action at the Jean-Daigle Centre on Sunday, at 3 pm, when the team hosts the South Shore Lumberjacks who literally destroyed the St. Stephen Aces 10-2 Friday night.

QUICK NOTES – Alexandre Bernier was elected player of the month of December for the Blizzard. He collected two goals and six assists in six games. His eight points were a team high during last month… The winner of Friday’s 50/50 draw received a whopping $ 7,935… Forward Logan Johnston was very effective in the last two games with two goals and an assist on Wednesday, and one goal and one assist on Friday.
