Blizzard cruises past Aces

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard tied their season record for most goals in a game when they easily defeated the St. Stephen Aces 7-3 on Friday night at the Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston in front of another packed house of 2,714 spectators.

The Blizzard’s only other game of seven goals was four months ago when the team edged the Summerside Western Capitals 7-4 on October 15, 2017.

The line of Alexandre Jacob, Logan Johnston and Kyle Ward made sparks throughout the game. They totalled 12 points altogether. Jacob (1st stard) had one goal and four assists. Johnston (2nd star) two goals and two assists and Ward (3rd star) three goals. Gabriel Vanier scored the other goal for the local team.

Ryan O’Toole, Evan White and Noah Holm got the goals for the Aces.

The Blizzard led 54-22 in shots and at one point was ahead 41-5. In the first period, the Edmundston players shot 25 times at defenseless goalie Jack Grant, often left alone. Myles Hektor was the Blizzard goalkeeper. The Blizzard took the lead 4-2, then 6-3 at the end of the first two periods.

The Blizzard (31-9-3-0 = 65 pts) maintains its two-point lead in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League overall standings on the Yarmouth Mariners (31-11-1-0 = 63 pts). The table will be set Sunday, February 18 when the Mariners and the Blizzard will face each other at the Jean-Daigle Centre (3 pm) in what can be considered the « game of the year ».
