Blizzard defeated in third period by the Steamers

GRAND-BOUCTOUCHE, N.B. – The Edmundston Blizzard seemed to run out of steam when they lost 6-4 to the West Kent Steamers in Grand Bouctouche.

The Blizzard wasted a 4-2 lead to start the third period, missing a great opportunity to move ahead of the Campbellton Tigers into fourth place in the Eastlink North Division. The Blizzard will have to roll up their sleeves starting in January, as the team is now on break for the holidays.

Cam White (3rd) opened the scoring for the home team at 2:12 of the first period. The Blizzard took control afterwards with four straight goals from Alexis Chénard (2nd), Darien Thomson (21st), and Michael Derbidge (2nd and 3rd).

The Steamers began their comeback in the third with goals at 8:51 (Austin Sanchez, 4th), 11:17 (Dawson Grandy, 2nd), 19:24 (Spencer Caines, 12th) and 19:54 into an empty net (Olivier Leblanc, 6th).

The Blizzard (15-14-1-2) fired 36 shots on goalie Xavier Farrah, while Cédric Massé faced 29 of the Steamers’ 30 shots. The stars of the game were Caines (1st), Farrah (2nd) and Derbidge (3rd).

This was the Blizzard’s third game in three days. They will resume action on January 2 and 3, hosting Chaleur and then Campbellton.
