EDMUNDSTON, N.B. – Charles-Éric Tremblay scored the decisive goal in the seventh round of shootouts, giving the Edmundston Blizzard a 4-3 win over the West Kent Steamers on Saturday, November 1st, at the Jean-Daigle Centre.
Leading 3-1 after two periods, the Steamers thought they could cruise to the win, but as they have done so often in recent years, the Blizzard came back from behind in the third period. Noah Breau was instrumental in the comeback with his fourth and fifth goals of the season at 3:53 and 9:17.
The Blizzard opened the scoring in the first period at 5:57 with Maddox Thisdelle’s first goal in the blue and white uniform. The Steamers responded with two goals before the end of the first period, scored by Austin Sanchez (his second at 9:06) and Olivier Leblanc (his third at 17:09). The visitors (7-7-3-1) took a 3-1 lead with the only goal of the second period at 4:32 by Noah Collette (1st).
After a scoreless overtime, both teams sent seven shooters to the ice for the shootout. In the fifth round, Victor Laliberté scored, but Émile Fournier tied the game again. In the seventh round, Charles-Éric Tremblay ended the game by beating Xavier Farrah.
For the Blizzard (10-6-0-1), it was their fifth consecutive win, and they are now just one point behind the Grand Falls Rapids (10-4-2-0) in the Eastlink North division.
Tremblay (1st), Breau (2nd), and Farrah (3rd) earned the stars.
Both teams fired 33 shots each. Cédric Massé earned his ninth win in goal for the Blizzard, a league high in the MHL.
The Blizzard will play its next game on Saturday, November 8 (7:30 p.m.) when it hosts the Miramichi Timberwolves (7-8-0-1).
