Blizzard dropping one in Summerside, 4-1

SUMMERSIDE, Prince Edward Island – The Edmundston Blizzard had quite a mission facing the Western Capitals in Summerside on Saturday night. All hopes were high as the Capitals played a third meeting in three nights. Emery Olauson’s men fought well but couldn’t find the winning combinations against the powerful Capitals who won 4-1.

The home team opened the scoring at 8:58 of the first period thanks to Thomas Lacombe (16th). A little over three minutes later (12:12), Peter Amanatidis (5th) brought the two teams back to square one by completing a very nice pass from Mitchell McLeod. But the Capitals regained a one-goal lead thanks to Max-Antoine Melançon (8th) who beat Raphaël Audet at 17:58.

With a 2-1 lead, the Capitals (18-2-0-1) added two goals in the second period, those of Marc Richard (15th at 2:24) and Thomas Lacombe (17th at 6:58). After the fourth goal, Audet was replaced by Nichlas Sheehan who shut down Summerside on 10 shots for the remainder of the game. Audet faced 15 shots. The Blizzard landed 21 shots against the Western Capitals’ net protected by Jacob LeBlanc.

The next two Blizzard games (11-5-1-1) will be played on opposing rinks. On Friday, December 3 (7:30 p.m.), Edmundston will square off against the Grand Falls Rapids, while on Sunday, December 5 (2 p.m.), the Blizzard will play against the Fredericton Red Wings.
