Blizzard ends the year on a high note!

EDMUNDSTON, N.B. – Noah Gibbs played the heroes with the winning goal with 6:09 to go in the third period, Tristan Therrien was the first star of the game with a goal and an assist and goalkeeper Raphaël Audet was brilliant as the Blizzard Edmundston ended 2021 with a nice 3-2 victory over the Miramichi Timberwolves on Thursday night at the Jean-Daigle Centre.

The end of activities for the Maritime Junior A Hockey League on Saturday until January 2nd, 2022 due to an increase of COVID-19 cases, marks the end of a near first half of the season for the 12 teams on the circuit. The Blizzard finished this first leg of the 52-game schedule second in the Eastlink North division with a 14-7-1-1 record for 30 points tied with the Fredericton Red Wings (14-7-2-0). The two teams sit 15 points behind the leaders, the Summerside Western Capitals (22-2-0-1).

On Thursday evening, the Blizzard had taken a 2-0 lead in the opening period after goals by Therrien (9th) and Blake Richardson (5th) before Jérémie Jacob (8th) reduced the gap to one goal with a goal during a penalty shot. In the second period, Jacob Santerre (18th) tied the score at 2-2 at 13:27 by beating goalkeeper Raphaël Audet (2nd star) who received 39 shots from the Timberwolves (5-15-2-1). The Blizzard threw 42 shots in the direction of Presley Lester who earned the third star of the game.

The next two Blizzard home games (December 18 and 30) have been postponed. Ticket holders from these games are requested to keep them for use when rescheduled dates are known.
