MIRAMICHI, N.B. – The nearly two-month pandemic break had a blowout effect for the Edmundston Blizzard who set a team record for most goals in a game en route to a 12-1 triumph over the Timberwolves of Miramichi at the Miramichi Civic Centre.
Tristan Fortin (17th, 18th, 19th) registered his second hat trick of the season, each time against Miramichi. Noah Gibbs (2g, 2a) had his second four-point game of the campaign. He scored his 9th and 10th goals of the season. Austin Paul (2g, 1a), Mathieu Pelletier (2g, 1a), Tristan Therrien (1g, 1a), Jérémy Duguay (1g) and Blake Richardson (1g) also contributed to the Blizzard attack (15-7-1-1) who remains in second place in the Eastlink North Division of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League.
William Robinson deprived Raphael Audet of a shutout midway through the second period with the Blizzard already leading 5-0. Audet still faced 38 Timberwolves shots. The Blizzard fired 50 shots in the direction of goaltenders Kenzie MacPhail and Presley Lester, the latter coming in relief at the start of the third period.
The 12 goals by the Blizzard were a team record. The old mark of 10 was achieved against the same Timberwolves, on January 11, 2020 in Miramichi, during a 10 to 2 victory for the Blizzard. Edmundston scored six goals in the second period. It was the third time in its history that the Blizzard scored six times in one period.
The Blizzard will play its next game at the Jean-Daigle Center on Saturday, February 12 at 7:30 p.m. against the Pictou County Weeks Crushers. On Sunday, Emery Olauson’s men will travel to Fredericton to face the Red Wings (2 p.m.).
