Ben Chipman and Brendan Young scored respectively at 6:46 and 10:24 of the opening period and the Mariners never looked back afterwards. Kyle Ward revived Blizzard’s hopes at 12:02, but it was the only time the puck was put behind goalie Leif Hertz.
Both teams had a scoreless second period. Yarmouth opened the third with two quick goals from Aaron Maillet (1:30) and Matt Barron (6:20).
The Mariners fired 31 shots at Francis Asselin, who made saves on many difficult shots. Edmundston got 30 shots against Hertz, much of the time from long distances.
The Blizzard now has a record of 26 wins, 7 losses and 3 overtime defeats for 55 points, 12 more thant its closest rival in the North Division, the Summerside Western Capitals, whom it will face next Thursday in PEI.
