EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – After a break of more than two months due to the pandemic, the Edmundston Blizzard will make its long-awaited return to the ice on Wednesday, March 10 in Miramichi when they face the local Timberwolves.
Two more games will follow at the Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston on Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13 against the Timberwolves and the Campbellton Tigers respectively. The two matchups will be presented at 7:30 p.m.
The Blizzard played its last game of the season on January 3rd. On Wednesday, it will mark 65 days of inaction for the Edmundston team, which boasts the best record in the Eastlink North division of the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL). Emery Olauson’s troop shows a record of 9 wins, 1 loss and 2 shootout defeats for a total of 20 points, the same number as the Grand Falls Rapids (8-2-1-3) who, however, played two more games.
The MHL has agreed on Monday night to a 30-game schedule for each of New Brunswick’s five teams, which means the Blizzard will have 18 games remaining, including 6 at home by the end of the regular season on April 14. Edmundston has played 9 of its 12 games at the Jean-Daigle Centre so far this season.
Since the rules have changed in this unusual year, the Summerside Western Capitals will end the season in the Norther Nova Scotia division. The playoffs will determine champions for the North and the South divisions.
