EDMUNDSTON, N.-B. – The Edmundston Blizzard have once again made a trade to acquire forward Mathieu Pigeon from the Melfort Mustangs of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). In return, the Blizzard gave up future considerations.
The 20-year-old Pigeon is now closer to his home in Rivière-du-Loup, Québec. According to the Mustangs’ website, he stands 6’1 and weighs 180 lbs. In seven games this season, he collected three assists. In 2023-2024, he earned the Mustangs Scholastic achievement Rookie of the year, along with his 6 goals and 4 assists in 28 games.
Pigeon’s presence will add experience to the Blizzard lineup, as Melfort captured the SJHL playoff championship last April.
Mathieu Pigeon comes to Edmundston as the Blizzard have another busy month ahead with nine games in November, seven of them at home. Pigeon will reunite with his new teammates for this weekend’s doubleheader at the Jean-Daigle Centre with the Fredericton Red Wings visiting on Friday and the Summerside Western Capitals on Saturday. Both games kick off at 7:30 p.m.
