EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – After the first five games in the season, the Edmundston Blizzard remains undefeated.

Following their 4-3 overtime win on Friday in its home opener, the Blizzard needed, once again, extra effort to beat the Miramichi Timberwolves 4-3 at the Miramichi Civic Centre on Saturday night in front of 832 fans. With the score 3-3, Jeff Akerley scored the winning goal at 16:36 of the third period to help his team continue the winning streak.

After a first goalless period, the Timberwolves opened the score at 6:19 of the second period, thanks to Jackson Savery. But that goal awakened the Blizzard who struck twice at 7:58 (Logan Johnson) and 9:10 (Logan Johnston).  In advance 2-1, Edmundston saw Miramichi tying the score at 2-2 at 12:28 following Yanick Leblanc’s goal. Then, who other than captain Kyle Ward to restore the one-goal lead for the Blizzard when he beat Tanner Somers at 15:33. For Ward, it was a fifth consecutive game with a goal this season.

Miramichi worked tirelessly and Dylan Wheatley brought the two teams back to square one by putting the puck behind goaltender Greg Moon at 2:40 of the third period. In the last minutes, Akerley broke the tie with an unassisted goal allowing the Blizzard to keep its perfect record intact.

The Blizzard led 43-37 in the shots on goal. Moon recorded his second win between the posts after his first game for the Blizzard on September 15 in Woodstock.

Blizzard is 5-0-0 and the players will rest a few days before traveling for the first time in Nova Scotia, where they will face the Pictou County Weeks (3-2-1) on Thursday, October 5, and the Truro Bearcats (5-1-0) on Friday, October 6.
