Blizzard loses Boucher and MacDonald; Brown arrives in Edmundston

EDMUNDSTON, N.B. – The Edmundston Blizzard management announced that 20-year-old veteran defensemen Mathieu Boucher and Jake MacDonald have decided to leave the team and pursue their university studies outside of New Brunswick.

To fill the void, the Blizzard acquired defenseman Jack Brown from the Grand Falls Rapids, along with a seventh-round pick in 2027. In return, the Blizzard gave up its fifth-round pick in 2026 and its third-round pick in 2027. Brown, 19, is a solid 6’2″ and 205 lb. player who is not afraid to throw his weight around, as evidenced by his 419 penalty minutes in 180 games since the 2021-2022 season in the MHL. He began his junior career with the Campbellton Tigers. In five seasons in the MHL, the defenseman from Sydney, Nova Scotia, has tallied 11 goals and 32 assists.

Boucher, from L’Ancienne Lorette, Québec, was the Blizzard’s most veteran player this season, having played 117 games with the Blue and White, accumulating 7 goals and 37 assists since the 2023-2024 season. In 30 games this season, he had 1 goal and 7 assists.

MacDonald, from Halifax, Nova Scotia, joined the Blizzard last season. He has 1 goal and 10 assists in 49 games with the Edmundston team. This year, he has 1 goal and 4 assists in 32 games. With three other teams in the MHL since the 2022-2023 season, he has played 157 games, tallying 2 goals and 27 assists.

The Blizzard management welcomes Jack Brown and thanks the two assistant captains, Mathieu Boucher and Jake MacDonald, for their valuable contribution to the team, particularly during the MHL championship series won last spring.
