Blizzard obtains defenseman Brandon Casey

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard made a transaction to strengthen its defensive brigade. They acquired 20-year-old rearguard Brandon Casey. In return, the Blizzard traded a 2023 2nd round pick and a 2024 7th round pick along with future considerations to the Fredericton Red Wings.

Last season, the 6’1 and 185 lbs defenseman from Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland played for the Grande Prairie Storm of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL). In 42 games, he registered two goals and 12 assists in addition to collecting 47 penalty minutes.

Casey played two seasons in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. In 2019-2020, he suited up with the Rimouski Océanic where he accumulated three assists in 33 games. In 2020-2021, he played 18 games with the Océanic and the St. John Sea Dogs.

“Brandon is coming in as our only 20-year-old on defense as of right now. He is a big body who can play both ends of the rink and will be another huge piece of our team this year,” said Blizzard general manager Steve MacPherson.
