EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard took a commanding lead in the series against the Campbellton Tigers following a decisive 4-1 victory on Saturday night in front of the largest crowd ever at the Jean-Daigle Centre.
The 2,884 spectators saw the Blizzard take a comfortable 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven Metalfab MHL Cup Eastlink North Division final series.
Émile Fournier, with his 10th and 11th goals of the series (the last in an empty net), sounded the charge for the Blizzard. The forward from Sainte-Luce, Québec, scored at least one goal and one point in all eight playoff games, both records in Edmundston team history. The record for most goals in a playoff season belongs to Kyle Ward, who tallied 15 in the 2018 playoffs.
Darien Thomson (2nd, winning goal) and Carl-Anthony Massé (7th) rounded out the scoring for the Blizzard.
Jean-Alexandre Tétreault (1st) provided the reply for the Tigers.
Goalie Austin Caley was exceptional on a number of occasions in front of the Blizzard net. He received 25 shots compared to 31 for his opponent, Adam Rouleau.
Fournier (1st), Massé (2nd) and Thomson (3rd) were named stars of the evening.
The Blizzard will try to send the Tigers on vacation when the two teams meet again on Tuesday (7 p.m.) at the Memorial Civic Centre in Campbellton.
