Blizzard puts Tigers in cage

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard won their ninth straight game defeating the Campbellton Tigers 5-1 on Friday night in front of 2,342 fans, the second largest crowd of the season at the Jean-Daigle Centre.

Olivier Coulombe (1st star) continued to fire on the opposing goaltenders. He scored two more goals to bring his total to 43 goals in only 31 games. His first goal of the game was the game-winner, for his MHL-leading 11th of the season. Patrick LeBlanc (3rd star; 1g, 1a), Brandon Casey (1g), Evan Gass (1g), Alex Arsenault (2nd star; 2a) and Jérémy Duguay (2a) also contributed to the Blizzard (33-12-0-1) offensive efforts.

Thomas Boucher was sharp in front of Blizzard’s net. He gave up only one goal to Luke Thorne in the second period. Boucher faced 24 shots compared to 30 for his opponent Jacob Carrier.

The Tigers started the game well and set the pace, but the Blizzard’s firepower quickly turned the game around with two consecutive goals in the first period at 8:09 (Casey) and 8:41 (Coulombe).

The Blizzard will complete a three-game stretch in three nights when they host the Pictou County Weeks Crushers (20-24-0-0) on Saturday (7:30 p.m.).
