EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard has signed agreements with new players and two recently drafted players.
The Blizzard has acquired defenseman Lucas Fortin from Repentigny, Québec, who played with the Victoriaville Tigers of the QMJHL for the past two seasons. Lucas is the brother of Tristan Fortin, who shone with the Blizzard during the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023 seasons. Lucas is a 19-year-old, 6’0″ forward who played 92 games with Victoriaville, where he totaled three assists.
Edmundston also acquired 18-year-old forward Charles-Éric Tremblay, a 6’2″ player. The Saguenay, Québec, forward racked up 11 goals and 14 assists in 15 games last season with the Champlain St. Lawrence Lions in the Québec Collegiate Hockey League, leading his team to the series championship. He also played for the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies, appearing in 29 games and scoring two goals.
The Blizzard also signed Éliott Guénette, a 5’11” forward from Donnacona, Québec. In 2024-2025, Guénette played for the Sherbrooke Phoenix, appearing in 26 games and recording one goal and three assists. He also played briefly for the Rimouski Océanic (3 games) and appeared in 15 games with the Champlain St. Lawrence Lions, where he tallied 3 goals and 11 assists.
In other news, Blizzard general manager Steve MacPherson announced that he had reached agreements with two drafted players, Nathan Crane (2024) and Benjamin Damphousse (2023). A 17-year-old forward from Paradise, Newfoundland, Crane played for the Varsity Stanstead College team last season, where he accumulated 10 goals and 16 assists in 72 games. As for defenseman Damphousse, who will turn 18 in September, he had 3 goals and 23 assists in 63 games with Rothesay Netherwood School. Damphousse is well known to the organization for having participated in the last two Blizzard camps and for having played five games during two seasons, recording one assist last year.
The Blizzard players will report to camp tomorrow. The team will play three preseason games against the Grand Falls Rapids, including two at the Jean-Daigle Centre on August 30 and September 10.
