Blizzard sits 16th in Canada

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard are back among the top 20 Junior A hockey teams in the country!

The Blizzard are ranked 16th in Canada, according to a release issued today by the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL).

The first rankings of the season have been released now that each of the 116 CJHL teams has played a few games.

After a loss in their season opener, the Blizzard won their next four games, notably against some tough opponents (Summerside – 7-2 win; Amherst – 6-1 victory; and Valley – 6-3 triumph).

With a record of 4-1-0-0, the Blizzard hold sole possession of first place in the Eastlink North Division standings. Their eight points put them one point ahead of the Miramichi Timberwolves (3-2-1-0).

The Blizzard have returned to the top 20 after being completely absent from the rankings throughout the 23 weeks of play last season. The year prior—a season that saw the team win the championship—the Blizzard had appeared on the list for all 23 weeks.

In the national rankings, the Markham Royals (OJHL, 10-0-0-0) hold the top spot, followed by the Collège Français de Longueuil (LHJAAAQ, 7-0-0-0) and—surprisingly, after only two games—the Flin Flon Bombers (SJHL, 2-0-0-0).

The Truro Bearcats, off to a perfect start with five wins, rank fourth in the country, while the Valley Wildcats (4-1-0-1) earned an honorable mention.
