FREDERICTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard continued their early-season dominance with a fifth consecutive win on Sunday afternoon, defeating the Fredericton Red Wings 5-2 in the province’s capital.
As they have done since the start of the season, the Blizzard showed no mercy to their opponents. Simon Olivier’s players fired a record 63 shots against the opposing cage, compared to 22 for the Wings. The Blizzard’s previous mark of 60 shots dates back to February 3, 2024 in Amherst.
Despite this fireworks display, victory didn’t come easy for the Blizzard. After taking a 3-0 lead late in the second period, the hosts never threw in the towel. They trailed the Blizzard 3-1 and 4-2.
Jérémy Fortin (1st star, 1g, 2a), Justin Hébert, Nathan Plamondon, Ryan Loveless and Mathieu Boucher (winning goal) shook the rope for the Blizzard (5-0-0-0). Alexis Jacques (2nd star, 3a) and Philippe Collette (2a) also added to the victors’ attack.
Salem Johnson (3rd star, 1g, 1a), Matt McRae (1g) and Landon Paul (2a) were the top scorers for the Red Wings (2-3-0-0).
Zachary Bridgeo faced 63 Blizzard shots, while Simon Boucher was confronted with 22 Wings shots.
The Blizzard players return home, preparing for the longest trip of the season to Nova Scotia. They face the Yarmouth Mariners on Friday, the Valley Wildcats on Saturday and the Truro Bearcats on Sunday.
