CAMPBELLTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard threw everything they had at goaltender Samuel Quimper, but the 19-year-old netminder from Saint-Quentin stood firm, turning aside 50 of 51 shots. The result: the Campbellton Tigers won their season opener 4–1.
The Blizzard opened the scoring 2:32 into the first period with a sharp shot from Noah Larochelle, but that was the only highlight of the game for the team, as the Tigers tied the score at the 17:00 mark on a goal by Samuel Deveau.
After a scoreless second period, the Tigers broke the game open in the third with consecutive goals from Adam Véronneau (1:54), Alex Austin (12:15), and Alex Lavoie (18:41)—the latter into an empty net.
In the Blizzard net, Olivier St-Onge had nothing to be ashamed of regarding his performance; he was brilliant on several occasions while facing 34 shots.
Unsurprisingly, Quimper earned the first star, followed by teammates Véronneau (second) and Austin (third).
The Tigers will savor this victory, having lost their final 23 games of the previous season. Their last win dated back to December 17, 2025.
The Blizzard will be idle for the next few days and will play their first home game on Saturday, September 19 (7:30 p.m.), hosting the Summerside Western Capitals. Major festivities are being planned to mark the franchise’s 10th anniversary in Edmundston; details will follow soon. The following day, Sunday, September 20 (3:00 p.m.), the Blizzard will host the Amherst Ramblers.
