MIRAMICHI, N.B. – Never take your opponent for granted. The Edmundston Blizzard learned this lesson the hard way when they lost 4-1 on Saturday to a team, the Miramichi Timberwolves, that has thrown in the towel this season.
When you’re facing a team that sometimes lacks structure, it’s difficult to counter them. And that’s what happened on Saturday night in front of a meager crowd of 281 spectators at the Miramichi Civic Centre.
The Timberwolves scored four consecutive goals before the Blizzard avoided a shutout.
Austin Walker (5th and 7th), Thatcher Hughes (13th), and Dawson Peverelle (6th) outplayed Olivier St-Onge, who faced 31 shots and suffered his first loss in a Blizzard uniform.
Zach Ericson only faltered against Michael Arsenault (14th) late in the third period, which cost him a shutout. For Ericson, it was his first career win in the MHL.
The Blizzard dominated in shots 40-31, including 20 shots in the third period.
The Blizzard (21-15-2-2) now shares fourth place in the Eastlink North Division with the West Kent Steamers (20-11-3-3).
Edmundston will play its next game in Campbellton on Friday, January 30 (7 p.m.), and will be back at home on Saturday, January 31 (7:30 p.m.) against the Grand Falls Rapids.
