Blizzard training camp gets under way!

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – A total of 22 young hockey players reported on the first day of the Edmundston Blizzard training camp.

Other players, bringing the total number of skaters to about 30, will add up in the next few days and will battle for a spot on the rink of the Palladium of Saint-Jacques.

On the first day of the camp, on Thursday, August 24, the Blizzard management and volunteers were busy enrolling and chatting with the young players aged 16 to 20.

The players passed a battery of fitness tests at the Edmundston Sports Pavilion. Tomorrow morning, Friday, players will jump on the ice for the first ice training. The players will be gathered in a single group and the session will be held from 9:30 am to 11 am at the Palladium of Saint-Jacques. All on-ice training sessions are open to the public and free of charge.

The first cuts are scheduled on Sunday or Monday.

The Blizzard of the Maritime Junior League will play four exhibition games, Saturday, September 2 at 7 pm (at the Palladium vs. St. Stephen), Sunday, September 3 at 7:30 pm (in Woodstock), Wednesday, September 6 (at the Palladium vs. Woodstock) and Friday, September 8 (in St. Stephen).

The first regular season game of the Blizzard will be played on Friday, September 15th in Woodstock and the first local contest at the Palladium will be held on Friday, September 29 against Amherst. If everything goes as planned, the Blizzard will move to the new Centre Jean-Daigle for its inaugural game on Sunday, October 22 against the Nova Scotia South Shore team.
