Blizzard wins impressive game in shootout

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – For the last game in the Maritime Junior A Hockey League before Christmas, it was quite a show offered by the Campbellton Tigers and the Edmundston Blizzard.

The Blizzard finally prevailed with a 6-5 shootout victory. Saint-Charles rocket Alex Arsenault, the same one who scored the 5th Blizzard goal, lifted the crowd of 2,785 spectators of the Jean-Daigle Centre by scoring the winning goal during the shootout.

Brock McLeod, Paul Leroux, Marc-Antoine Couture and Mitchell McLeod also fooled goalkeeper Tristan Gray. Charles-William Gagné (twice), William Basque, Connor Richard and Joey Frenette replied for the Tigers who directed 29 pucks on Antoine Lyonnais. The Blizzard fired 50 times at the Tigers net.

First star of the game Chase Carter probably had his best game ever with the Blizzard. He collected three assists and was constantly at the center of the action, both on offense and defense. Arsenault earned the second star and Lyonnais the third. Lyonnais kept his team in the game making amazing stops, as he has often shown in the past few games.

The Blizzard concludes the fall season with 20 wins in 31 games. The team suffered 7 losses in regulation time, 1 in overtime and 3 in shootout. Edmundston is only 5 points behind the Summerside Western Capitals (24-5-0-1), leaders of the Eastlink North Division. The Tigers (13-10-3-2) are still fourth, five points behind the Fredericton Red Wings.

The Blizzard and the Tigers will meet again to start the New Year on Friday, January 3rd, at 7 pm, this time at the Campbellton Memorial Civic Centre.
