Blizzard wins in OT and takes the series’ lead

SUMMERSIDE, PEI – Another game that ends by a one-point differential. This time, it took overtime to settle the debate.

Well placed in front of goalkeeper Dominik Tmej, Kyle Ward skilfully deflected the puck behind him after Alex Lavoie’s slap shot, allowing the Edmundston Blizzard to enjoy a 3-2 win at 1:21 of the fourth period. The game was played at the Credit Union Place in Summerside in front of 1,642 fans.

Edmundston takes the lead 2-1 in this best of seven finals of the EastLink North division of the MHL. The fourth game will be played Wednesday at 7 pm in Summerside.

No goals were scored in the first and third periods. It all came in the second frame when the Western Capitals took twice the lead to see the Blizzard equalize on every occasion. Brodie MacArthur (1:55, Western Capitals), Dany Coulombe (2:23, Blizzard), Chris Chaddock (8:22, Western Capitals) and Dany Coulombe again (13:07, Blizzard) scored back-to-back goals in the second period.

Coulombe, who almost got his hat trick, was chosen the first star of the game, followed by MacArthur (2nd) and Chaddock (3rd).

The first two games of the series were played at the Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston on Saturday and Sunday. Summerside won the first meeting (5-4) and the Blizzard the second (3-2).
