Blizzard wins seventh consecutive game!

TRURO, Nova Scotia – The amazing winning series for the Edmundston Blizzard is still intact!

Friday night in Truro, the Blizzard knew the task would be very hard. And once again, the Blizzard prevailed by finding a way to beat the Bearcats 3-2. For Edmundston, it was the seventh straight victory since the beginning of the season. Meanwhile, the Bearcats dropped their second game in seven meetings.

And that’s not all. By scoring his team’s second goal, captain Kyle Ward hit the found of the net for a seventh straigt games. His linemate Logan Johnston also hit the jackpot when he regsitered at least one point in seven consecutive games.

Right from the start of the game, the Bearcats came out flying. They literally came out like lions. Gavin Hart struck at only 25 secondes of action by beating goaltender Francis Asselin.

At 15:30, Jeff Akerley tied the game at 1 whith his third goal of the season with passes going. For Akerley, it was his thrid goal of the season. Liam Leonard and Tristan Mercure prepared the play.

Same scenario in the second period when the two teams exchanged goals. The Bearcats took a 2-1 lead with Campbell Picards’s 9th goal of the campaign. But 19 seconds later, Kyle Ward, with his 10th, brought the two teams to square one. Logan Johnston and Alexandre Jacob collected the assists.

In the second period, Jacob was hit by a teammate shot and had o retreat to the Blizzard’s dressing room.

The Blizzard started the third period in a flash. Jacob quickly recovered from his injury and scored the Blizzard’s winning goal at 0:28. Johnston and defenseman Alexandre Bernier got the helpers. The Edmundston players held on until the end thanks to the fine performance of goalkeeper Francis Asselin who was in the net for a second night in a row.

Asselin faced 25 shots. Truro’s Kevin Resop received 32 pucks.

The three stars of the game : Alexandre Jacob – Edmundston (1st), Campbell Pickard – Truro (2nd) and Logan Johnston – Edmundston (3rd).

QUICK NOTES – Kyle Ward (10g, 4a), Logan Johnston (1g, 12a) and Alexandre Jacob (3g, 8a) are by far the best line in the Maritime Junior Hockey League. Ward is first in the points column followed by Johnston (2nd) and Jacob (5th)… The Blizzard will travel to Summerside, Prince Edward Island, where it will take part in the MHL Showcase featuring the league’s 12 teams. On Tuesday, at 5 pm, the Blizzard will face Pictou County. On Wednesday, at 3 pm, Edmundston will play against Truro. These two games count in the regular season standings… Each game of the MHL Showcase consists of two periods of 25 minutes.
