Blizzards blanks Rapids

GRAND FALLS, New Brunswick – Goaltenders Antoine Lyonnais and Thomas Fontaine took things in hand in Grand Falls when they completely closed the door to the Rapids, giving the Edmundston a 2-0 win on Sunday night in front of a crowd of 910 spectators at the E. and P. Sénéchal Centre.

The two goalkeepers shared the task equally. Lyonnais blocked all 13 shots he faced during the first 30 minutes he worked. Fontaine was also perfect, pushing back 14 pucks.

The game was a dandy. It was not until 16:32 of the third period before Aaron Brown found the back of the net on a Tristan Mercure pass. Dallas Maurovic put the final touch with a goal in an empty net at 19:29 after receiving a pass from Brown.

Emery Olauson’s squad will return on the ice on Tuesday night at 8:30 pm at the Jean-Daigle Centre when they host the Campbellton Tigers.
