CAMPBELLTON, New Brunswick – The Edmundston Blizzard once again struggled to make the most of their numerous attacking chances, losing 3-1 to the Campbellton Tigers in an MHL game played Sunday afternoon in the Restigouche city.
Tigers goaltender Dekon Randell-Snow (1st star) stopped 40 pucks to help his team climb to 4th place in the Eastlink North Division.
With a good week’s rest, Simon Olivier’s men were hoping to avenge their 4-1 loss in Miramichi last Saturday. But the Tigers (7-9-1-0) struck early, Kiefer Lyons beating goalkeeper Nicholas Sheehan with a weak shot from the point in the 56th second. On a power play at 12:52, Félix Bédard tied the score following a rebound from Justin Hébert’s shot. Lyons (2nd star) fooled Sheehan (3rd star) once again, this time with a smart wrap around play near the net at 15:31.
Trailing 2-1, the Blizzard could never find a way to get the puck behind Randell-Snow after that.
The Tigers got themselves into hot water in the third period with two minor penalties in a row, but the Blizzard lacked finish around the opposing net. Campbellton put the game out of reach with Benjamin DeJonge’s goal at 16:01.
The Blizzard held a 40-36 advantage in shots on goal. In their last two games, Edmundston managed just two goals on 81 shots. What’s more, they’ll have to start their games with more conviction. Of their 71 goals scored this season, only 12 have come in the first period, while their opponents have 18.
The Blizzard’s record now stands at 10-6-0-1 and they are third in the Eastlink North Division.
The Blizzard has a record of 6 wins and 5 losses against teams within their division.
Edmundston’s next home game will be on Friday, November 10 (7:30 p.m.) against the Miramichi Timberwolves (11-3-0-0).
