EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – Twenty-year-old forwards Carl-Anthony Massé and Jérémy D’Astous, of the Edmundston Blizzard, have commited to the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus and will make the leap to university hockey next season.
Massé (10g, 12a = 22pts) and D’Astous (8g, 13a = 21pts) finished first and second respectively in the points column of the Maritime Junior Hockey League playoffs.
During the season, Massé played in all 52 Blizzard games, amassing 23 goals and 45 assists for 68 points, good for 10th in the MHL and 3rd for Edmundston. A player who excels in all situations, Massé will undoubtedly be a valuable asset for the Aigles Bleus. What’s more, Massé’s transition from the Edmundston to the Moncton campus is sure to go smoothly, given that he was named to the latest Edmundston Dean’s Honour Roll (UMCE), as well as being named the Blizzard’s Student Player of the Year.
After playing for the Québec Remparts in 2022-2023 and 2023-2024, for whom he collected 4 goals and 3 assists in 34 games, the Rivière-du-Loup forward joined the Blizzard in January 2024, playing in 17 games and tallying 11 goals and 8 assists.
As for D’Astous, the Bleu et Or are getting their hands on a born scorer who cut his teeth first in the QMJHL. He played for the Shawinigan Cataractes and Chicoutimi Saguenéens during the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 seasons. Combined, he scored 13 goals and 29 assists for 42 points in 93 games.
This season, the forward from Saint-Eugène-de-Ladrière, Québec, played his final year of junior hockey in northwestern New Brunswick. He began the season with the Grand Falls Rapids, with whom he amassed 16 goals and 35 assists for 51 points in just 27 games. In January, the Blizzard acquired him in a trade. In 17 games with Edmundston, he collected 14 goals and 17 assists.
D’Astous had a 30-goal, 52-assist campaign for 82 points in 44 games. His points-per-game percentage (1.86) was the highest in the MHL.
A member of the Eastlink North All-Star Team at season’s end, D’Astous was named to the North Team of the Week six times.
Carl-Anthony Massé and Jérémy D’Astous will be key elements for the Blizzard at the Canadian Championship in Calgary, from May 8 to 18.
