MIRAMICHI, N.B. – Charles-Éric Tremblay put on a show Saturday night in Miramichi, scoring his first hat trick in the Maritime Hockey League to lead the Edmundston Blizzard to a 6-3 win over the Timberwolves.
The victory allows the Blizzard to catch up with the West Kent Steamers, who suffered a 2-0 loss Saturday in Truro. Edmundston and West Kent sit atop the Eastlink North division with 61 points each. However, the Steamers have one game in hand. The regular season is coming to an end. The Steamers have five games left to play before the playoffs, while the Blizzard have four.
On Saturday at the Miramichi Civic Centre, the Blizzard once again managed to overcome a deficit to record a valuable victory.
Tremblay, an 18-year-old forward from Saguenay, Québec, proved to be the man of the hour. With the score 3-2 in Miramichi’s favor, his first goal of the night at 15:24 of the second period sparked the comeback. Michael Arsenault (17th) made it 4-3 at 16:20, and Tremblay dashed any hopes for the Timberwolves by adding his 16th and 17th goals of the season early in the third period, the last one coming at 6:28.
Tremblay scored his three goals in a span of 10:08, just 45 seconds shy of the team record (9:23) for an away game set by Chrystopher Collin on December 18, 2019, against the same Timberwolves. The mark for the fastest three goals belongs to Mitchel McLeod, who achieved the feat in 6:02 at the Jean-Daigle Centre on October 14, 2022, against the… Timberwolves.
Darien Thomson (39th) and Néka Jean (6th) also found the back of the net for the Blizzard. With an assist, Thomson recorded his 100th and 101st points in a Blizzard uniform. Thomson is the eighth Blizzard player to reach this milestone.
For the Wolves (15-29-3-1), Nick Beatty (5th), Alexis Doucet (22nd), and Brayden Campbell (14th) beat Olivier St-Onge, who faced 37 shots, as did his counterpart Zach Ericson.
With two assists, William Labranche is enjoying another exceptional streak of seven games with at least two points. Earlier this season, he recorded at least two points in 10 consecutive games, a team record, ahead of Olivier Coulombe (9 consecutive games in 2022-2023) and Philippe Collette (8 consecutive games in 2024-2025).
Alexis Chénard and Eliott Guenette each had two assists in the win. With one assist, Michael Arsenault also finished the night with two points.
Michael Ward’s men will play their next two games on Thursday, February 26 (7:30 p.m.) at home against the Grand Falls Rapids (26-15-5-1), and on Friday, February 27 (7 p.m.) away against the Campbellton Tigers (15-24-6-2).
