EDMUNDSTON, N.B. – The Edmundston Blizzard players once again turned on the offensive on Saturday at the Jean-Daigle Centre when they easily defeated the Campbellton Tigers, 8-3, a score identical to the January 3 game between the two teams in Edmundston.
Michael Arsenault was once again masterful in his second game in a Blizzard uniform, scoring twice (11th and 12th) and adding two assists. Justin Trottier (8th and 9th) joined the party with his first two-goal game of his career with the Blizzard. Noah Larochelle (13th, 1a), Darien Thomson (30th), Jack Brown (4th), and Émile Fournier (14th) also found the back of the net behind Tigers goaltenders Niko Boudreau and Samuel Quimper, who faced 44 shots from the Blizzard. Eliott Guenette, Charles-Éric Tremblay, and William Labranche each had two assists.
Adam Véronneau (17th), Alexi Parent (11th), and Luke Orr (8th) beat Edmundston goalie Olivier St-Onge, who was making his first start of the season in front of the Blizzard net. He faced 29 shots and earned applause from the crowd with a few key saves. St-Onge’s last game in the MHL was on October 25, 2024. In four starts, he has a perfect record of four wins.
Arsenault (1st), Trottier (2nd) and Fournier (3rd) were named the three stars of the night in front of 2,437 spectators.
The Blizzard (20-14-1-2) has now won five consecutive games. The race remains tight in the Eastlink North division. The Chaleur Lightning has regained the lead with 45 points, followed by the Grand Falls Rapids (44 points), the Blizzard (43 points), and the West Kent Steamers (42 points).
The Blizzard and the Rapids will face off on Sunday, January 18 (3 p.m.) in Grand Falls in a crucial division matchup.
NOTES – January has been a good month for the Blizzard. In five games, Edmundston scored 39 times, or nearly 8 goals per game… This is the Blizzard’s second five-game winning streak this season… Darien Thomson extended his streak of games with at least one goal to six. William Labranche has accumulated at least two points in each of his last 10 games. His streak of games with at least one point is 11.
