CAMPBELLTON, New Brunswick – Jérémy D’Astous shredded the Campbellton Tigres’ defense Sunday afternoon, scoring four goals to give the Edmundston Blizzard a 6-4 victory. The game was played at the Campbellton Memorial Civic Centre.
D’Astous became the sixth Blizzard player to score four goals in a game since the 2017-2018 season. Sam King (50-minute game – MHL Showcase), Chrystopher Collin, Tristan Fortin, Olivier Coulombe and Philippe Collette (playoff game) also scored four goals in a game for the Blue and White.
On Sunday, D’Astous scored his team’s first three goals. His fourth (26th of the season), in the third period, gave the Blizzard a 5-2 lead, and proved to be the winning goal. D’Astous joins Pictou County’s Lucas Canning as the second-highest scorer in the MHL.
Zachary Lessard picked up a goal (4th) and an assist in the Blizzard’s 36th win of the season, as they cruise to another Eastlink North division championship.
Trailing 5-2, the Tigers didn’t give up and closed the gap to 5-4 with just over five minutes to go in the third period. Émile Fournier put an end to the game with his 34th goal in an empty net. Fournier had previously collected three assists.
With three assists, Philippe Collette extended his lead at the top of the scoring race. His 75 points (24 goals and 51 assists) are six more than Canning and D’Astous. Jérémy Fortin had another strong game up front with two assists.
Sam Hope (19th), Lucas Boisvert (8th), Tyler Pazin (23rd) and Owen Underhill (17th) foiled goaltender Austin Caley, who not only turned aside 32 pucks, but also earned his fifth consecutive win since the Blizzard acquired him on January 9. The Blizzard directed 39 shots against the Tigers’ cage defended by Adam Rouleau.
Stars went to D’Astous (1st), Fournier (2nd) and Rouleau (3rd).
The Blizzard (36-6-1-1) are riding an eight-game winning streak. Recording three wins in four days is not always easy, and they rose to the challenge brilliantly.
Edmundston has just one game next week. On Friday (7 p.m.), they will visit the Fredericton Red Wings (10-27-1-2).
