Defensemen Thibodeau and Welsh are back

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – Good news for the Edmundston Blizzard, which can count on the return of defensemen Jérémie Thibodeau and Zach Welsh.

The 18-year-old Thibodeau played one game with the Chicoutimi Saguenéens of the QMJHL in September before joining the Blizzard.

A native of Saint-Léonard, Thibodeau, 6’2” and 200 lbs, played 20 games with the Blizzard last season, scoring 3 goals and 4 assists. He was then recalled by the Saguenéens to end the season where he registered 3 assists in 25 games. Thibodeau is in uniform tonight (Thursday) in Miramichi and will also play in Fredericton (Friday) and Grand Falls (Sunday).

As for Zach Welsh, 19, he is also returning from a stay in the QMJHL, with the Saint-Jean Sea Dogs. He was injured during training camp to be transferred back to the Blizzard. The 6’2” and 185 lbs defenseman from Halifax, Nova Scotia, played in 12 games for the Blizzard last season, collecting 2 assists. In the past years, he has played 35 games with the Cape Breton Eagles and the Sherbrooke Phoenix. Welsh will practice with the Blizzard tomorrow. The date of his return to the lineup is not yet known.
