Despite being dominated, the Mariners prevail

EDMUNDSTON, N.B. – Sometimes during a season, the dominant team fails to win after 60 minutes.

That’s what happened Saturday night at the Jean-Daigle Centre when the Edmundston Blizzard lost 2-1 to the Yarmouth Mariners despite clearly dominating the shots on goal 52-26.

After a scoreless first period, the Blizzard opened the score in the second period on a goal by Alex Thibault (2nd) at 2:38. Following a deflection by Ewan Cleary (4th), the Mariners (4-4-1-0) tied the game 1-1 at 13:10.

In the third period, Justin Garneau (4th) scored the game-winning goal at 6:26, beating goaltender Rylan Benner with an accurate wrist shot. The Blizzard tried hard to break through the wall of goaltender Keegan Warren, but he refused to give in to the barrage of 19 shots in the third. He was rightfully named the game’s first star. Garneau (2nd star) and Zachary Robichaud (3rd star) of the Blizzard also stood out.

The Blizzard (5-4-0-1) will have to put this loss behind them as they face the Campbellton Tigers (4-4-1-0) in Restigouche County on Sunday at 3 p.m.
