The Blizzard had its first two picks in the first round, with consecutive selections at #10 and #11. Edmundston chose Owen Dyke, a defenseman from Spaniard’s Bay, Newfoundland, followed by Lucas Hannay, another rearguard from Fredericton. Both players will turn 16 in October.

Dyke tallied one goal and nine assists in 29 games with Newfoundland’s Osprey Tri Pen in the NLU18MHL. He finished second in points among defensemen. He stands 6′ tall and weighs 172 lbs.

Smaller at 5’8″ and 148 lbs, Hannay also had 10 points (2g, 8a) in 35 games with the Fredericton Caps of the NBPEIMU18HL.

“Owen Dyke is a smart puck moving dman with good size,” said Blizzard general manager Steve MacPherson. He was also a 6th round pick with Acadie-Bathurst (QMJHL). Lucas Hannay also skates well with good IQ and is a good puck mover.”

GM MacPherson also commented on the other selections.

“Ryder McQueen is a great skater with great work ethic. Dylan Pelletier is a another kid who is a great skater and was a Q draft pick with the Québec Remparts. Nathan Crane is a big and strong physical power forward with some offensive touch.”

“Samuel Couette, kid from Dieppe, played at Ridley College while Hayden Aubin, a right defenseman, played with Fredericton U18.”

” I’m pretty happy with our draft. Got a lot of guys that we were targeting. This draft was for the future, but we are super excited with the talent we added to our team,” concluded Steve MacPherson.
