Dylan Lang and Jérémy Duguay named student players of the year for the Blizzard

EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – Forwards Dylan Lang (81) and Jérémy Duguay (14) won this past season’s student player titles with the Edmundston Blizzard.

18-year-old Dylan Lang, from Saint-Jacques, received the Coupe Édupôle Cup. As for Jérémy Duguay, 19, from Tracadie-Sheila, he won the Coupe Twin Rivers Paper Cup. The two young hockey players won these titles in November 2020 before restrictions related to COVID-19 gave the Blizzard a hard time to end the campaign.

“The Blizzard Education Committee would like to congratulate Dylan and Jérémy for these two honors which constitute one of the team’s greatest values. Since the Blizzard began in 2017, the education component has always been highly considered by the team’s management. Parents greatly appreciate that we offer exceptional support for young hockey players who are finishing high school or pursuing college or university studies, ” said Jean-Yves Ouellette, vice-president of the education committee.

The two students completed their first university year in the business administration program at the University of Moncton, Dylan Lang at the Edmundston campus (5 courses) and Jérémy Duguay at the Shippagan campus (4 courses).

In 16 games in 2020-2021, Dylan Lang collected a goal and an assist. Jérémy Duguay took part in all 19 games, collecting 4 goals and 11 assists.

Here are the players who have earned the honors for the other three months of the season.

December 2020
Coupe Édupôle Cup: Nathan Nadeau. A first-year student at UMCE, he was enrolled in five courses in the first semester and four courses in the second semester in the Bachelor of Criminology. Goalkeeper, he lives in Lac-Baker.

Coupe Twin Rivers Paper Cup: Alex Savoie. Enrolled in his first year as a student in engineering at the Université de Moncton, campus de Moncton. A native of Moncton, he collected an assist in 13 games in his rookie year.

January 2021
Coupe Édupôle Cup: Jonathan Desrosiers. A 12th grade student at Cité des jeunes A.-M.-Sormany, he stood out on the Blizzard blue line with 2 goals and 9 assists in 17 games in his first season in the MHL. He is originally from Dieppe.

Coupe Twin Rivers Paper Cup: Jesse Chamberlain. Grade 12 student at Saint Mary’s Academy in Edmundston. A rookie defenseman born in Bathurst, he had an assist in 18 games.

February 2021
Coupe Édupôle Cup: Félix Rioux. A 3rd year student in social science at UMCE, the Saint-Jean-de-Dieu, Que., forward was in his final season with the Blizzard and MHL. Proud ambassador of the team, he had one goal and one assist in 18 games.

Coupe Twin Rivers Paper Cup: Vincent Bujold. He was enrolled in four distance CEGEP courses. A defender originally from Terrebonne, Que., he was in his first campaign with the Blizzard. He played in all 19 games for the team, recording one goal and three assists.
