Edmundston Blizzard win 2024-25 Young/Knickle Award for Top Goaltending Duo

Truro, N.S. (March 17, 2025) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) is pleased to announce that the Edmundston Blizzard have won the Young/Knickle Award for the top goaltending duo for the second season in a row. The award is presented annually to the team that allows the fewest goals in a season. As a team, the Blizzard allowed 126 goals in 52 games, ten fewer than they allowed last season, with seven different goaltenders playing at least one game.

Austin Caley was acquired January 9th from the Truro Bearcats. In 11 games with the Blizzard, he went a perfect 10-0-0-0 with a 1.79 goals against average, .921 save percentage, and two shutouts. Overall, the 19-year-old from Van Alsytne, Texas had a record of 18-3-0-0 and led the league with both a 1.98 goals against average and .930 save percentage. He tied Summerside’s George Gallant for the most shutouts with three. Caley was named Honourable Mention for Top Goaltender in October and February/March, and was named to the Team of the Week three times.

Frédéric Cousineau was traded from Truro to Edmundston on November 30th. In thirteen games with Edmundston, the 19-year-old from Malartic, Quebec had a record of 9-3-0-1 with a 2.71 goals against average and an .894 save percentage with one shutout. Cousineau was named to the Eastlink North Team of the Week twice.
