Truro, N.S. (January 1, 2025) – The Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) has named forward Émile Fournier of the Edmundston Blizzard as the Top Rookie for December. The 18-year-old from Sainte-Luce, Quebec led all players in goals last month with nine, four of which came on the powerplay. His twelve points in six games were most among all MHL rookies for December and was the fifth-highest point total among all players. He enters the new year tied with Pictou County’s Lucas Canning for the second-most goals in the league with 25, second-most powerplay goals with nine, and sits 15th in overall league scoring. Among rookies, Fournier has twice the amount of points as the Rapids’ Brayden Campbell, who sits second.
Fournier scored in every game last month, starting with a powerplay goal on December 5th against West Kent and another goal the next night against Fredericton. His last four games were all multi-point efforts. Fournier had two goals, including one late in the 3rd period to tie the game, and an assist in a 4-3 overtime win against Grand Falls on the 13th. He had one goal and one assist in a 6-5 overtime win against Fredericton on the 14th. After two powerplay goals in a 9-1 win over Fredericton on the 20th, Fournier finished the month with two goals and an assist in a 5-4 overtime win over Amherst on the 21st.
Honourable Mention – Nathan Mills (Campbellton Tigers) – The 18-year-old netminder from Halifax, N.S. went 2-0-2-1 for the Campbellton Tigers in December with a 2.92 goals against average and a .907 save percentage. His 147 saves last month were fifth-most in the league. He made 33 saves in a 5-1 win over Yarmouth on the 13th and followed that up with 18 saves in a 5-3 win over Grand Falls on the 18th for his two victories in December.
