EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – History was made when the Edmundston Blizzard was selected as the best team in Canada following the latest ranking of 117 teams for the 2024-2025 season conducted by the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL).
Throughout the 23 weeks of the weekly national rankings, the Blizzard was consistently among the top ten teams, a journey that has never been seen before for the Edmundston-based franchise since the 2017-2018 season. The Blizzard was even named the number one team in the country on November 25.
This success is the result of an exceptional 17-game winning stretch over the last 18 games, since the successful acquisitions in January. In 26 home games, the Blizzard has suffered only one regulation-time loss and one overtime defeat. This means they have won 24 of the games played in front of their fans at the Jean-Daigle Centre.
In the past week, the Blizzard triumphed 5-3 over Miramichi on Friday, then 6-0 over Campbellton.
The Blizzard finished the season with a record of 44-6-1-1 for 90 points and a win-loss percentage of .865, three franchise records. Congratulations to the players, coaching and support staff, administration, billeting and biological families, volunteers, sponsors, partners and, of course, fans!
In the national rankings, the Blizzard edged out the Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL, 2nd, 47-6-2-1; .866), Rockland Nationals (CCHL, 3rd, 44-7-1-1; .849), Leamington Flyers (OJHL, 4th, 45-7-3-1; .839) and Melfort Mustangs (SJHL, 5th, 44-7-0-2; .849).
Now that the fabulous regular season is a thing of the past, it’s time to erase the blackboard and rewrite game plans for the playoffs, which begin Friday (7:30 p.m.) when the Blizzard host the Miramichi Timberwolves.
