EDMUNDSTON, N.B. – After long months of preparation, the day of the first game in the brand new Jean-Daigle Centre in Edmundston has finally arrived!

The whole Edmundston Blizzard organization, players and staff will share this historic moment with their fans by hosting the Summerside Western Capitals, which they will face twice, on Saturday, October 28 (7:30 pm) and Sunday, October 29 (3 pm).

The Blizzard (9 wins and 3 losses) remains first in the EastLink North Division of the Maritime Junior Hockey League, five points ahead of the Western Capitals (6 wins, 6 losses and 1 defeat in overtime).

In the only confrontation between the two teams on October 15 in Summerside, Edmundston won 7-4.

Head coach Ryan Salvis expects stiff opposition this weekend. His players will have to keep a close eye on the league’s points leader TJ Shea (13GP, 11G, 12A). “We gave up 4 goals (on October 15) and neither of their goalies had a good game. They have brought in a different goalie since then and they have some very good offensive forwards so it will be a very tough weekend. ”

A promising opening
Blizzard players visited their new home of 2,400 seats on Wednesday.

“The new rink is great. I took a tour yesterday (Wednesday) and was extremely impressed with everything. Our dressing room is first class and the kids seem to be very happy and impressed with everything so far. We are obviously very excited to be into our new home, “said Salvis.

The team’s president, André Lebel, shares the same enthusiasm.

“I feel a great sense of satisfaction,” he said. Our team of volunteers is made up of extraordinary and very dedicated people. I think that the success of this beautiful project is the result of the involvement of all these people and it is to them that the credit goes. ”
