EDMUNDSTON, New Brunswick – Edmundston Blizzard goaltender Cédric Massé received an honorable mention today in the selection of October’s star players from among the 116 teams and more than 2,500 players in the Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL).
Massé, who turns 20 tomorrow (November 14), played in eight of the Blizzard’s nine games in October, posting a record of six wins and only one loss. He set a new team record for the most consecutive minutes without allowing a goal, shutting out opposing teams for 146 minutes and 55 seconds. In October, Massé posted a 2.45 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.
A native of Rimouski, Massé is the only qualified goaltender in the Maritime Junior Hockey League (MHL) with a goals-against average below 3.00. His average stands at 2.31, and he leads the league in shutouts (3) and save percentage (.919). The record for the lowest goals-against average in a season for the Blizzard is 2.29, set in the 2023-2024 season by Nicholas Sheehan.
The three stars in the country went to goaltender Mathis Lacroix-Goulet (1st star) of the Collège français de Longueuil (LHJAAAQ), who posted a 1.58 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage, forward Mavrick Brunet (2nd star) of the Rockland Nationals (CCHL), who had 8 goals and 18 assists in 11 games, and forward Taeo Artichuk (3rd star), of the Trenton Golden Hawks (OJHL), who had 13 goals and 9 assists in 9 games.
