CAMPBELLTON, New Brunswick – Inspired by an outstanding effort from all players, the Edmundston Blizzard erased a 3-1 deficit to win 6-3 on Tuesday night in Campbellton, and thus sweep in four games the final series of the Metalfab MHL Cup Eastlink North Division.
It was a hotly contested game, with goalkeepers sweating it out as they were bombarded with 96 shots. Tigers goalkeeper Adam Rouleau was tested 55 times. First star of the evening Frédéric Cousineau was spectacular on numerous occasions, receiving 41 shots.
Twelve Blizzard players collected at least one point. Goals were scored by Carl-Anthony Massé (8th, 1a), Will Allen (4th), Zachary Lessard (3rd), Justin Trottier (2nd, game-winner), Raphaël Denis (3rd) and Jérémy D’Astous (1st). Third star William Labranche made his presence felt with three assists. Marco Martin picked up two assists.
For the Tigers, Thomas Larouche was the top scorer with two goals (5th and 6th) and an assist. He earned second star honors. Jean-Alexandre Tétreault (2nd) was the other Campbellton scorer, while Félix-Antoine Laflamme registered two assists.
Émile Fournier’s streak of at least one point and one goal in the playoffs ended at eight games.
On another note, which Blizzard player has the most game-winning goals in the current playoffs? Answer: Justin Trottier. His two goals helped his team to victory!
With their backs against the wall, the Tigers applied a lot of pressure in the first period, during which they led 3-1. But the second and third periods were all Frédéric Cousineau. The Blizzard players scored three goals in the second half of the middle period to give themselves a lead that they extended in the third period with two more goals.
After winning both series decisively (4-1 over Miramichi and 4-0 over Campbellton), the Blizzard await their next opponent in the Metalfab MHL Cup Grand Final. The Pictou County Weeks Crushers have the Truro Bearcats on the ropes and could sweep them aside on Wednesday night in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia.
